RESOURCES FOR ADOLESCENTS
Adolescence is a difficult time. As they approach this new period of their lives, children encounter a whole new raft of challenges and difficulties. This is the time when they begin to develop their independence, but still lack the maturity and skills to deal with it, or to negotiate the complex situations in which they often find themselves.
Young people often have problems and difficulties that impact negatively on their ability to reach their potential every day. It is critical for parents, teachers, and therapists to understand and identify the factors that indicate a higher risk of developmental problems for some children.
Young people must learn to practise healthy coping strategies as they face problems. They must also learn how important it is to communicate openly and honestly by expressing feelings, venting, and talking about their feelings with trusted adults.
Teaching Coping Strategies
As children progress through adolescence, they are faced with physical confrontations, developmental issues, feelings of insecurity, and a range of other issues all new and sometimes potentially overwhelming. Teachers, parents, and therapists can help by teaching them coping strategies and skills to deal with a variety of situations.
Life Skills 4 Kids has created a number of effective resources to provide support and training tools for all those responsible for teaching adolescents. We have included a variety of books, many of which are accompanied by CDs and worksheets to augment the teaching and learning process.
