ALERT PROGRAM

The ALERT PROGRAMŽ - also widely recognised as “How does your engine run?” - is designed to teach effective self-regulation and developmental skills. The resource toolkit includes CDs, books, leader guides, posters and other visual aids, and a huge variety of interactive tools for parents, teachers and therapists as well as those for students.

Resources and tools related to the program are designed for primary school-aged students, but they can easily be adapted for older or younger children. Test Drive -The Book and CD Set is an excellent way to get started. It takes minimal time, and the catchy words and rhymes will have children humming and tapping their toes without realising they’re learning self-regulation skills.

LifeSkills4Kids offers this resource as an effective tool to teach children the five ways to change how alert they feel. Proven strategies and techniques provide parents, teachers, and therapists with the tools and the words to help children achieve a higher level of self-regulation.

Varying Levels of Intervention

Resources are designed for varying levels of intervention, depending on the time available to teach the program. There are also different levels of resources, starting with the Alert Program Leader’s Guide – essential to implement the program – and going on to include additional and comprehensive tools with multiple steps and stages. These additional tools are optional, but resources such as Take Five! Staying Alert at Home and School, Alert Program Companion Game, Alert Program Go Fish and Bingo Card Games undoubtedly make it easier to implement the program. CDs, books, posters, boards, and other interactive aids have also proved to be immensely helpful in making the learning process fun and engaging.
