Take your place as an expert teacher of calm, connected kids.

Implement simple changes for a classroom of attentive, engaged kids who can’t wait to start learning.

(Even if you feel like your class has some of the most difficult behaviour issues in the whole school…)

If you’re a primary school teacher, you know what it’s like to struggle with behaviour issues in the classroom…

Even if only one child is disruptive it can affect everyone.

Does this sound familiar?

  • A few of your students have trouble focusing, so helping them learn feels like a constant battle and takes over your whole day
  • Some students find it difficult to calm down after break times, so you lose a lot of time getting the room back under control
  • You feel like you’re constantly setting up behaviour management meetings with parents or sending students to the principal’s office
  • Even the slightest change in routine can set off a chain reaction of emotional meltdowns, poor choices or poor behaviour
Identifying Sensory Issues that Impact Learning in the Classroom

The truth is, the look and feel of the spaces we’re in can make a big difference to our mood and our ability to concentrate.

This is especially true for children who are more sensitive to sensory inputs like light, sound and colours or patterns. If the children in your classroom are distracted, overwhelmed, or need to leave the room to reset themselves – it’s possible your environment could be playing a part.

Importantly, you might not see the problem because of your own sensory preferences or personality.

For example, do you prefer a quiet environment while you prepare lesson plans, or do you like to listen to music?

Do you like having a lot of decorations and keepsakes on your desk, or do you prefer a clutter-free zone?

We all have our own sensory personality and this often plays out in our classroom environment.

Recently, I was asked to consult to a Year 4 classroom that had five suspensions in the previous three weeks.

The classroom was small, the walls were visually busy, it was dark, and the noise was over 70 decibels for general conversation (about 35 decibels is recommended for classrooms).

With just a few simple changes, we were able to completely transform behaviour in that classroom.

And this isn’t an isolated situation.

I’ve seen small changes creating HUGE improvements in behaviour and learning time and time again.

In fact, research shows that making small but specific changes to the classroom environment can advance learning up to nine months.

It is completely possible for your students to be calmer, more settled in class, have more positive behaviour, and to concentrate and learn better.

I am keen to pass this on to my staff here at school as valuable material for EVERY classroom.
Can't wait to see what happens now.

Introducing

THE 20-DAY CLASSROOM DETOX

A 4-week, step-by-step program to take primary school teachers from behaviour-management overwhelm to having a calmer, more connected classroom

I've taken everything I've learned from more than 20 years as an Occupational Therapist visiting classrooms around Australia, including city schools, rural schools and even remote Indigenous schools.

I’ll help you make tiny changes that’ll have a huge impact on your day-to-day classroom management.

THE 20-DAY CLASSROOM DETOX

Is a completely new way to look at your classroom environment to maximise learning and engagement.

You’ll get support and easy to follow resources that will take you from overwhelm to ease – and you’ll even get 10 hours of certified professional development points!

The end result: a calmer, more grounded classroom that’s ‘just right’ for optimal learning.

“Thank you for including us in this amazing opportunity to ‘detox' the classroom. I have a strong interest in sensory input and how sensory processing can increase a child's ability to regulate, improve concentration and assist with the development of fine/gross motor skills. We are hoping that with this ‘detox' we can assist children to develop their own skills for regulation, improve their concentration and provide a dynamic way to increase our program participation. I look forward to unpacking these ideas further!”

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions people ask before saying “yes, please” to detoxing their classroom for better behaviour and improved learning.

Gosh, there’s a lot going on when you’re a primary school teacher! But setting up your classroom for success is a proactive strategy to making your day and week easier.

But setting up your home environment for success and having proactive strategies to help your child (or children) cope with their emotions will completely change how your family functions – and how you feel – day-to-day.

With a few small changes to your classroom environment, the children in your class will be able to focus and concentrate easier, be able to self-regulate, and able to control their emotions and behaviour better.

This will make your teaching day easier which means you’ll be less tired and frazzled by the end of the day.

Yes, absolutely! Changing-up your classroom with a few simple tweaks can help your WHOLE class, especially those extra challenging students.

Creating a sensory-safe classroom supports all students to be calmer, more grounded and able to focus on what you’re teaching.

Completing the 20-Day Classroom Detox will contribute 10 hours of NESA Registered Professional Development addressing criteria 1.1.2 (Physical, social and intellectual development and characteristics of students) and 3.4.2 (select and use resources) from the Australian Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in Australia.

This course will train you to understand the sensory environment of a classroom and guide you through strategies to make your classroom more sensory safe, resulting in increased concentration and a more calm and grounded class.

Once you’ve completed all the modules, take the short quizzes in the learning portal and these will be automatically submitted for approval. You will then receive an online certificate that shows your CPD points.

We’ve allowed 20 days for you to follow along with the group, but you will have lifetime access to the course materials and videos within the course portal.

This means you can do the course at your own pace and your CPD points will still be issued once you’ve completed the modules and submitted your quiz results.

Definitely! Principals rave about the benefits this course has had on their teachers, students and school. It is excellent professional development for teachers that’s not offered online anywhere else.

As mentioned, completing the 20-Day Classroom Detox will contribute 10 hours of NESA Registered PD addressing criteria 1.1.2 (Physical, social and intellectual development and characteristics of students) and 3.4.2 (select and use resources) from the Australian Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in Australia.

Yes, for sure. We’ve had many OTs complete this program and find it really helpful.

You CAN be the teacher you always wanted to be.

If you’re ready to create a more inclusive and positive classroom environment so you have a smoother, easier day (and stop being exhausted by recess)…
